The idea is to create a vigilant and proactive populace, prudent enough to contribute to national security efforts through everyday vigilance or during emergencies. This proactive attitude not only eliminates risks but also thickens the security fabric of the nation.

To augment the efforts of the military and law enforcement agencies, every citizen needs to contribute and become the eyes and ears of their motherland. The list includes adults, children, families, senior citizens, local communities, etc. Massive empowerment can happen through security education because it encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are invaluable in assessing and responding to various safety scenarios. By teaching these skills, we build a more resilient society capable of withstanding and overcoming security challenges.

Educating the younger generations about safety from an early age is the first step in bringing about the much-needed transformation. For example, kids can mark off actions such as memorizing their parent’s phone number and home address where each bingo card corresponds to a safety-related action. Older kids can learn through escape room puzzles and break out of situations (a locked room) by solving a code relating to emergency numbers or safety procedures.
• Children can meet security experts, where local law enforcement and other safety professionals can deliver lectures in a Q&A format, online or offline.
• Tech-based learning through Virtual Reality (VR) and educational apps can stimulate their brains to respond to hazardous situations. Through mobile applications, students can learn the dangers of cyberbullying, online predators, data breaches, etc. It will enable them to cruise the internet safely and responsibly.
• Children can create safety-related crafts. For example, posters illustrating cyber security tips and how to stay safe in public places. Their creative works can be published in school magazines and put on notice boards where talented kids get rewarded with prizes, etc.

These fundamental principles establish the basis for a lifetime of safe practices. The goal is to make safety a natural part of a child’s thinking and behavior. Here, teachers and school staff have a pivotal role because they spend a reasonable amount of time with the children. They can model the desired behavior, mentor them, and create a conducive environment for learning about safety.

Creating Safety Superheroes
